Kolkata: The shares of Boeing dipped sharply by close to 8% in the pre-trading hours, following the crash of a Dreamliner in Ahmedabad airport, reports stated. Incidentally, the US share market it yet to open. According to New York Stock Exchange data, the Boeing stock was feeling selling pressure on Wednesdsy. At the close of session, the stock was trading at $214.00, down $1.84 (or 0.85%).

The Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon was rare in Indian civil aviation history. There were 169 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian national onboard. Corporate leaders from Gautam Adani to N Chandrasekharan expressed deep shock and sadness.

Gautam Adani, the chairman of Adani group and N Chandrasekharan, chairman of Tata Sons expressed deep shock and sadness at the crash of the Air India flight AI 171 in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon. The Boeing Dreamliner crashed minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad airport. There were 242 persons on board and 232 of them were passengers. Since the flight was bound for Gatwick, there were British nationals in the aircraft.

“With profound sorrow, I confirm that Air India flight, AI 171 operating Ahmedabad London Gatwick was involved in a tragic accident today. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of all those affected by this devastating event,” Chandrasekaran, who is also Tata Group Chairman, said in a statement.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragedy of Air India Flight 171. Our hearts go out to the families who have suffered an unimaginable loss. We are working closely with all authorities and extending full support to the families on the ground,” wrote Gautam Adani on his social media X handle. Incidentally, the Ahmedabad airport, formally known as the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, is owned and operated by Adani Airport Holdings, a subsidiary of the Adani Group.

The situation was specially sensitive for N Chandrasekharan since Air India is a part of the Tata Group. India’s respected industrial conglomerate officially took ownership of Air India on January 27, 2022.
