Boxing Day Test: Day 1 of MCG Test between India and Australia sold out

New Delhi: High demand to witness the clash between India and Australia prompted fans to buy the tickets for the opening day of the fourth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in record time. The tickets for Day 1 of the MCG Test have been sold out, more than a fortnight before the game begins on December 26.

The high demand for tickets is yet another big indicator of the fanfare and popularity surrounding the prestigious BGT. It also cements the status of India vs Australia as the biggest rivalry in cricket.

The huge surge in demand for tickets came two days after hosts Australia staged a superb turnaround, inflicting a dominating 10-wicket win at the Adelaide Oval to level the five-match series 1-1.

Record-breaking ticket sales for India-Australia MCG clash

The two rivals will lock horns in the third Test in Brisbane starting on December 14, Saturday before heading to the MCG for the Boxing Day Test. The final Test of the series will begin on January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Cricket Australia shared a video on X and confirmed that all the available public tickets for Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test have been sold.

The CA also added that there is a possibility of the release of a small number of public tickets on December 24 for non-members to get their seats.

High demand highlights India-Australia cricket rivalry

The historic rivalry between India and Australia witnessed a new peak last week when the pink ball Test in Adelaide drew a crowd of 135,012 across three days. This was the biggest turnout during a five-day game featuring the two sides.

A total of 36,225 fans enjoyed the match at the Adelaide Oval on the first day of the second India-Australia Test, breaking the previous record of 113,009 for a Test against India – set over five days in 2014-15.

The recently-concluded pink-ball Test also saw the record of the single-day attendance being shattered on the opening two days with over 50,000 fans witnessing the game at the iconic venue.

The first Test in Perth also saw fans turning out in record numbers at the Optus Stadium, where India registered a 295-run win for their biggest victory in Australia.
