New Delhi: Brain haemorrhage, also known as brain bleed, is a potentially-deadly condition characterised by bleeding between the skull and the brain tissue. It requires immediate medical attention as the condition lead to death if not addressed ASAP. Although it is rarely seen in the young, a recent case surprised many when a 16-year-old girl from Gujarat, Heer Ghetiya, who was one of the toppers in the board exams that were conducted this year, passed away due to a brain haemorrhage recently.
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) results were announced on May 11 and Heer Ghetiya scored 99.7% in her class 10 board exams. The girl suffered a brain haemorrhage and also underwent a surgery at a hospital in Rajkot and discharged after the same. However, she soon started to experience heart and breathing problems and was admitted to a hospital where doctors performed an MRI and found that 80-90% of her brain had stopped working. On Wednesday, she died after her heart stopped working, and her parents decided to donate her eyes and body.
What is brain haemorrhage?
In an interaction with News9Live, Dr. Anupam Anand, Department of General Medicine, Sharda Hospital, explained what a brain haemorrhage is and its symptoms.
“Brain haemorrhage occurs from rupture of arteries in the brain. Many factors influence the occurrence of brain haemorrhage.Trauma, hypertension, use of anticoagulants, rupture of aneurysms are major causes. Brain haemorrhage in young can usually result from increase in sudden rise of blood pressure, largely due to underlying undetected conditions. Stress also plays a major role. The dietary pattern of young people which is largely western influences also increases the risk for such events. Lack of exercise, increased body weight and sedentary lifestyle are also major factor. It is very important to get oneself checked for various parameters like blood pressure, lipids and kidney function even if one is young,” said Dr Anand.

Muscle weakness on one side
Numbness on one side of the face
Difficulty in walking
Paralysis on one side of the body
Low level of consciousness
Seizures
Sensitivity to light
Headaches
Fainting
