The National Hurricane Center in Miami reports that Hurricane Oscar has developed off the Bahamas’ coast.
Oscar, described as “tiny” by the hurricane center, formed on Saturday. The Bahamas government has issued a hurricane warning for the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas, while Cuba has issued a hurricane watch for Guantanamo, Holguin, and Las Tunas provinces.
The storm has maximum sustained winds of 80 mph (130 kph) with even stronger gusts. Its center is located approximately 165 miles (260 kilometers) east-southeast of the southeastern Bahamas and about 470 miles (755 kilometers) east of Camaguey, Cuba.
Earlier, Tropical Storm Nadine formed off Mexico’s southern Caribbean coast and is moving inland toward Belize, bringing heavy rain and tropical storm conditions to parts of Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula. A tropical storm warning is currently in effect for Belize City and the area from Belize to Cancun, Mexico, including Cozumel.
