Mumbai: The excitement of wedding preparations often revolves around selecting the perfect outfit, finalising the décor, and ensuring every detail of the big day is picture-perfect. But amidst all the planning, there’s one crucial aspect that many brides underestimate; achieving naturally glowing skin.

While makeup can enhance features, the real magic lies in skin that looks healthy, radiant, and luminous on its own. Skincare is often reduced to generic advice—drink more water, get enough sleep, and apply a face mask—but the truth is, achieving that bridal glow is a mix of the right treatments, smart skincare choices, and an understanding of what your skin needs.

What works for one may not work for another. Some may struggle with sudden breakouts due to stress, while others may find their skin looking dull despite following a strict routine. Then there’s the wedding day which requires hours of makeup, bright lights, and countless photographs capturing every detail. Skin that is dry, patchy, or over-treated will show, no matter how skilled your makeup artist is. That’s why a well-planned approach to skincare, customised to your skin’s needs, is essential in the months leading up to your wedding.

Bridal skin care secrets

Dr Niketa Sonavane, celebrity dermatologist and founder of Ambrosia Aesthetics in Mumbai, suggests a bridal skincare regime for the perfect wedding glow.

Start a targeted skincare routine early

A good skincare routine should be built at least six months before the wedding. Your basic routine should include Vitamin C; it helps brighten the skin and fade pigmentation.

  • Niacinamide reduces redness, strengthens the skin barrier, and controls oil production.
  • Hydration is extremely important; hyaluronic acid intensely hydrates the skin and keeps it plump.
  • Retinol is another essential ingredient; it boosts collagen production and reduces fine lines. Start with a low percentage if you’re new to it. Peptides help in skin repair and firmness.

For soft, supple lips, use a lip scrub with sugar and honey once a week and a nourishing lip mask at night. Avoid experimenting too close to the wedding. Introduce new products slowly to prevent irritation.

Choose bridal-safe facials

Not all facials give an instant glow. Some treatments like strong chemical peels or microdermabrasion can leave redness and sensitivity. Instead, opt for hydrating facials with hyaluronic acid or ceramides to plump the skin, oxygen facials to boost circulation and brightness, or LED light therapy (red light for anti-ageing, blue light for acne-prone skin).

Schedule facials at least a week before the wedding to allow the skin to settle.

Hydration is more than just drinking water

While drinking water is crucial, skin hydration also depends on topical ingredients. Hyaluronic acid draws moisture into the skin, while glycerine acts as a humectant that keeps the skin soft and hydrated. Squalane, a lightweight oil, helps lock in hydration, and ceramides strengthen the skin barrier to prevent moisture loss. Layering these ingredients in serums and moisturisers ensures long-lasting hydration.

Sunscreen is a must, even indoors

Sun damage is one of the biggest causes of dullness and pigmentation. A broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 50+) with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide is ideal, as these physical blockers are suitable for sensitive skin.

Niacinamide helps calm inflammation while offering additional protection against sun damage. Even when indoors, prolonged exposure to blue light from screens can contribute to pigmentation, so opting for a sunscreen with iron oxides provides extra defence.

Right diet for glowing skin

Your skin reflects what you eat. Focus on antioxidants (Vitamin C, E, and Polyphenols) found in berries, green tea, and nuts, they protect against damage.

Omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon, flaxseeds, and walnuts, reduce inflammation and keep skin plump. Zinc helps prevent breakouts, found in pumpkin seeds and chickpeas. Probiotics improve gut health and reduce skin flare-ups. Sources include yoghurt, kimchi, and kefir. Reduce processed sugar, dairy (if prone to breakouts), and alcohol, which can dehydrate the skin.

Advanced treatments for a long-lasting glow

If you want a real skin transformation, consider non-invasive treatments like bio remodelling. Profhilo, a bio-remodeling procedure utilises ultrapure hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate and improve skin elasticity. It gives a natural, plump look without fillers.

Another option is hydro stretch therapy using Viscoderm Hydrobooster. With stabilised hyaluronic acid, it smooths fine lines and hydrates the skin from within. These treatments should be done at least 2-3 months before the wedding for the best results.

Exfoliate smartly

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and reveals a fresh layer, making the skin appear brighter and smoother. Instead of harsh scrubs, opt for AHAs like lactic acid or mandelic acid, which are best for dry or sensitive skin. BHAs, such as salicylic acid, work well for acne-prone or oily skin, while PHAs like gluconolactone provide mild exfoliation, making them suitable for very sensitive skin. To prevent irritation, limit exfoliation to twice a week.

Prioritise sleep and stress management

Lack of sleep can cause dullness, breakouts, and dark circles. Use caffeine-infused eye creams to reduce puffiness.

  • Magnesium and melatonin supplements can aid in sleep regulation, however, doctor consultation is suggested before use.
  • Chamomile tea is a natural way to manage stress. Also, meditation, deep breathing, and light stretching can help prevent stress-related skin issues.

Your wedding day is one of the most memorable moments of your life, and achieving that radiant bridal glow requires more than just last-minute fixes.

A holistic skincare approach, combining the right treatments, diet, hydration, and stress management, will ensure your skin looks naturally flawless. Start early, listen to your skin’s needs, and avoid experimenting too close to the big day.

Remember, healthy skin is happy skin, and when you feel confident in your skin, your bridal glow will shine effortlessly. Embrace the journey, trust the process, and walk down the aisle with a luminous, picture-perfect glow!
