New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday (February 1, 2025) paid special attention to places of spiritual and religious significance during her Budget speech. The announcement aimed to boost tourism at sites related to Lord Buddha.
“With emphasis on places of spiritual and religious significance in the July Budget, there will be a special focus on destinations related to the life and times of Lord Buddha,” FM Sitharaman said in Parliament. She added that the top 50 tourist destinations in the country will be developed in partnership with states through a challenge mode.
Sitharaman mentioned that medical tourism will be promoted in partnership with the private sector in an effort to boost tourism in the country. She further stated that the government will also extend Mudra loans to homestays.
She also announced financial support for the Western Kosi Canal. It will benefit 50,000 hectares in the Mithilanchal region of Bihar.
In her detailed Budget speech, she highlighted that Budget 2025 continues the government’s efforts to accelerate growth, promote inclusive development, attract private sector investments, enhance the spending power of India’s rising middle class, and uplift household sentiments.
It is to be noted that the Budget session of Parliament commenced on Friday (January 31, 2025). The session is scheduled to be concluded on April 4, 2025.
The Budget speech highlighted the government’s fiscal policies, revenue and expenditure proposals, taxation reforms, and other significant announcements. This was Sitharaman’s eighth Budget.
Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget 2025 saree
On the Budget 2025 Day, Sitharaman wore a beautiful off white saree with intricate golden work, paired with a red blouse and a shawl. If online reports are to be believed, the saree was gifted by Padma Shri awardee Dulari Devi, who is a self-taught Madhubani artist from Bihar. The Finance Minister met Dulari Devi during her visit to the Mithila Art Institute in Madhubani for a credit outreach event.
