Bundesliga Women 2024/25: Kowalski’s goal seals SGS Essen 3-0 win over Potsdam

New Delhi: Nothing is going in favour of Turbine Potsdam as they started under new coach Kurt Russ they failed to take away points against SGS Essen for the sixth time. In their first game since team manager Dirk Heinrichs and coach Marco Gebhardt, the side came to the field with four changes.

After their 3-0 loss in Freiburg, Schmid, Selimhodzic, Ito and Taslidza were given the nod to replace Lindner, Hahn, Dommasch and Schmidt. This season Potsdam have lost all six of their games and are yet to score a single point.

SGS Essen themselves were coming to the game after a 3-1 loss against SGS Essen, and the win over Potsdam gave them their second win of the season. Despite their loss, coach Markus Hogner kept the same starting lineup against Potsdam and seemed to be happy with the squad.

Though Essen were tested initially, they soon took over the control of the game and started putting pressure on the hosts. Though there was one save early in the first half, Rieke broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute. Elmazi then doubled the score in the 35th minute, from where on Potsdam were never able to recover.

The second hald saw Potsdam start a little counter-attack with their approach on the field seemingly more positive. Selimhodzic missed a close chance at the 54th minute, going over the pole. Six minutes later, player of the match, Kowalski, sealed the game for Essen when she found the back of the net with a left-foot deflection.

The 21-year-old had already made two assists in the game, and the goal in the 60th minute was Kowalski’s fourth of the season. The rest of the game was mostly uneventful as the hosts were handed another humiliating loss. Potsdam are yet to score a goal in the season and have failed to score in six consecutive games. For now, Essen are ahead over the relegation zone. Potsdam will next take on TSG Hoffenhein while Essen will host VFL Wolfsburg.

Kowalski’s fourth goal of the season and double assist, helps SGS Essen seal their second win of the season against hosts Potsdam.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
