‘Can go on the pitch and bat’: Former cricketer Vinod Kambli issues fresh health update

New Delhi: The former Indian batter Vinod Kambli issued a fresh update and reassured the fans that he is fit and fine. He issued an update on Friday, through the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after a video went viral where he was struggling to walk.

The video garnered a lot of attention on social media and many fans wanted his friend Sachin Tendulkar to help him financially. But in a recent video, the former cricketer claimed that he is fit and expressed his desire to play at number three.

He made his international debut against Pakistan in 1991 at Sharjah. Kambli played 104 ODI matches for India and scored 2477 runs. He also featured in 17 Test matches, scoring 1084 runs at an average of 54.20.

Kambli retired from international cricket in 2000 but continued playing domestic cricket till 2004. He also scored nearly 10,000 runs in the first-class format with his best innings score being 262.

Kambli is a childhood friend of legendary Sachin Tendulkar and the two batters have shared a 666-run partnership during a school game where Kambli scored 349 runs. He also had many health issues and suffered a heart attack in 2013 while driving.

Kambli had undergone an angioplasty procedure for two of his blocked arteries. According to the user who uploaded the video on social media, Kambli had spent 5 hours with his schoolmate Ricky Couto and First Class Umpire Marcus Couto yesterday, during which he was in good spirits.

“I’m good, Marcus. By the grace of God, I am surviving. Fit and fine. Yes, (I can go to the pitch and bat). (Would bat at) number three. I’ll hit spinners out of the ground,” Kambli said in the viral video.
