New Delhi: The 78th Cannes Film Festival has introduced a new rule this year to ban nudity and excessively oversized outfits on the red carpet. The decision has been taken by the authorities after the past controversies of a topless protester in 2022 and Bianca Censori’s revealing outfit at the Grammys earlier this year. The guidelines aim to maintain decorum and focus on the celebration of cinema.
Festival De Cannes kicks off on May 13, 2025 (today). The Cannes Film Festival, in terms of official standards and French law, stated an official statement saying, “This year, the Cannes Film Festival has clearly outlined certain longstanding rules in its official charter. The intention is not to regulate fashion choices, but to explicitly prohibit full nudity on the red carpet, in alignment with the festival’s institutional standards and French law.”
