‘Can’t give Pakistan easy target’: Concerns over PBKS-DC IPL 2025 clash in Dharamshala amid IND-PAK tensions

New Delhi: Following ‘Operation Sindoor’ by the Indian armed forces, a high alert has been issued across several major north-west Indian cities which are close to the India-Pakistan border. In a joint operation, the Indian army, air force and the Indian navy successfully targeted nine terrorist launchpads across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir (POK).

India destroyed terror infrastructure across all target points while also eliminating over 80 terrorists. In a statement, the Indian Army confirmed that the precision strikes were planned and directed and that Indian demonstrated restraint in the selection of the target areas and the overall execution of the strikes. Tensions have flared up between India and Pakistan after the military operation, which was conducted to avenge the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

Pakistan has violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu & Kashmir and has warned of ‘retaliation’. Security measures have been heightened across the country, with several airports in high-alert zones such as Amritsar, Chandigarh, Srinagar, Dharamshala and Leh among others suspending operations. At least 18 airports have been shut down temporarily with flight operations suspended.

Doubt over PBKS vs DC match in IPL 2025

The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has also been affected, as there remain doubts over the next two matches scheduled to take place at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. The venue is set to host Punjab Kings’ next two matches against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on May 08 and May 11, respectively.

However, the match between PBKS and Mumbai Indians on May 11 is likely to be shifted to Mumbai after flight operations were suspended at the Dharamshala airport. Meanwhile, there are also concerns over the match between DC and PBKS scheduled to take place tomorrow. Though both teams are in Dharmshala, there are concerns over floodlights at the stadium at night and the proximity of the venue to the India-Pakistan border.

“Cannot give Pakistan an easy target with 25,000 people in the stadium in Dharamshala (with floodlights on). Better safe than sorry is what BCCI’s approach is,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by Times Now.

Amid the reports, the practice sessions of both teams were called off on Wednesday, a day ahead of the game, due to unforeseen reasons. There has been no official update from either DC or Punjab Kings on why the players didn’t practice on Wednesday. The HPCA continues to remain on standby for the PBKS vs DC clash and is waiting for government’s advisory on whether to go ahead with the match.

The clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals is in doubt amid escalated tensions between India and Pakistan after ‘Operation Sindoor’ by the Indian armed forces.  IPL Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
