New Delhi: Germany defeated India by 2-0 in the first match of the two-match Test series in New Delhi on October 23, Wednesday, Hockey returned to the capital after a decade but the Indian team failed to secure a victory against the World Champions Germany.
After the match, Team India’s captain Harmanpreet Singh interacted with the fans in Delhi and clicked pictures with them. He also met with the youngest hockey fan and had a cute interaction with her after the game. The name of India’s youngest fan is Devika and her parents in an interaction with News9 reporter Viransh Shah said that their daughter is blessed after meeting with the captain.

Germany beat India by 2-0
Team India had a bad day in Delhi as they missed a total of 8 penalty corners and Harmanpreet Singh’s penalty stroke was also stopped. Germany played the match without big names like Gonzalo Peillat and Christopher Ruhr. At the start of the match, both teams tried to stitch passes into the D but Germany scored the first goal in the fourth minute.
Germany once again ran through Indian defence but Krishan Pathak made a good save. Both teams tried for circle penetrations in the first quarter. India looked to counter-attack in the second quarter and Germany looked to control possession. Harmanpreet and Co. got two penalty corners in five minutes but failed to convert both.
The 6th PC troubled the German defence and Dilpreet was able to send the ball back into the net but the goal was ruled out after the referral from the visitors. Captain Harmanpreet Singh was awarded a penalty stroke in the 30th minute but he missed the shot sending shockwaves through the stadium.
The visitors got their first penalty corner of the match and capitalised on the chance to make it 2-0 just before half-time. India applied continuous pressure in the second half and got some good chances but failed to convert them into a goal. The second match of the series will be played on October 24 in Delhi.
