The scheme coverage age limit has been expanded with an allocation of Rs 3,437 crore. Eligible families will receive a top-up cover of Rs 5 lakh under the scheme, said Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Eligible senior citizens will be issued a distinct card under the scheme.

PMJAY eligibility for senior citizens

Senior citizens who are already covered by another government scheme may opt for Ayushman Bharat cover by renouncing their existing scheme. The Centre has not introduced an income cap for coverage to senior citizens aged 70 years and above under this scheme. Individuals covered under the following schemes will have to renounce them before availing of benefits under PMJAY:

Central Govt Health Scheme
Ex-serviceman Contributory Health Scheme
Ayushman Central Armed Police Force

AB PM-JAY benefits can be availed by senior citizens who are a

lready covered by private health insurance schemes. The scheme currently covers the secondary and tertiary hospitalisation expenses of 12.34 crore families and 55 crore individuals. Overall, 6 crore senior citizens are expected to benefit from the age limit expansion under PMJAY.

How to apply for PMJAY

Visit the official website at: https://pmjay.gov.in/
Check eligibility by clicking on the “Am I eligible” tab
Enter your registered mobile number or ration card number
Once found eligible, you will be redirected to the application page
Click on new registration or apply
Fill in the required details
Ensure that you have entered your Aadhaar number
Upload scanned copies of Aadhaar, and your ration card among other documents
Click on submit
You will receive an Ayushman Bharat Yojana Card once your details have been verified and cleared by the concerned officials
