Mumbai: Masik Durgashtami, observed on the Ashtami Tithi (eighth day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) each month, holds great religious significance in Hinduism. Devotees of Goddess Durga observe this day with devotion through fasting and worship, believing that doing so brings the divine blessings of the Goddess. It is said to usher peace, prosperity, and harmony into the household.
This month, Masik Durgashtami coincides with the auspicious Chaitra Navratri celebrations. Today marks the third day of Navratri, which will conclude on 6 April 2025. The eighth day of Chaitra Navratri—also celebrated as Masik Durgashtami—will include the sacred ritual of Kanya Pujan (worshipping young girls). It is believed that those who perform this ritual with devotion are blessed by the Goddess with a happy and prosperous marital life. Here’s all you need to know about the date, timings, and method of Kanya Pujan.
When is Masik Durgashtami 2025?
According to the Hindu Panchang (calendar), the Ashtami Tithi of Chaitra month’s Shukla Paksha will begin at 8:12 PM on 4 April and end at 7:26 PM on 5 April. Since Hindu rituals are generally observed based on the sunrise or Udaya Tithi, Masik Durgashtami and Durga Ashtami of Chaitra Navratri will be celebrated on 5 April 2025.
