New Delhi: Indian cricket team star Jasprit Bumrah attended British band Coldplay’s concert in his hometown Ahmedabad on Sunday. Bumrah added to the star quotient at Coldplay’s second and final concert in the country where he was seen having a gala time. Chris Martin, Coldplay’s lead singer paid a tribute to Bumrah with a special song for the Indian pacer at the concert.

In a video clip from the concert that has set social media ablaze, Martin can be singing an impromptu song for “the best bowler in whole of cricket” Bumrah, who made his appearance in the crowd towards the end of the concert in Ahmedabad. Martin dedicated a few lines to the Indian pacer where he also expressed how the Coldplay members didn’t like Bumrah destroying the England batting line-up when playing for India.

“O Jasprit Bumrah, my beautiful brother. The best bowler in the whole of cricket. We did not enjoy watching you destroy England, wicket after wicket,” Martin sang amid loud cheers from the crowd at Coldplay’s Ahmedabad show.

Bumrah’s appearance during Coldplay’s concert at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday was on the expected notes as the band’s lead singer Martin had earlier mentioned the Indian pacer’s name during their concert in Mumbai last week. Coldplay also played a clip of Bumrah destroying England batter Ollie Pope’s stumps during a Test match between India and England last year.

Days later, Martin claimed to have received a letter from Bumrah’s lawyers threatening legal action against the British band for using the Indian cricketer’s name in their concert. However, many fans rightly guessed it was a promotional gimmick to build up for Bumrah’s eventual appearance at the band’s concert in Ahmedabad.

Coldplay also showed respect to Bumrah by displaying his signed Test jersey during their concert at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Jasprit Bumrah named in India’s Champions Trophy squad

Bumrah has been named in India’s 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 despite recovering from a back injury. Bumrah suffered back spasms during the final 5th Test of the Border-Gavskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia in Sydney and didn’t come out to bowl during the hosts’ chase in their second innings of the Test match.

While the extent of his injury is not known yet, Bumrah has been advised to rest and is expected to recover in time for the Champions Trophy which gets underway on February 19. Bumrah enjoyed a phenomenal campaign in the Australia Test series where he finished as the leading wicket-taker with 32 wickets from 5 Tests.

If given final clearance, Bumrah can return to action in the final 3rd ODI of the upcoming three-match ODI series between India and England next month or he might make his comeback in the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.
