New Delhi: Cole Palmer has been named England men’s 2023-24 player of the year. He is one of Europe’s most promising talents and has been mesmerizing with his exploits for both his club and in the international arena. The award is decided through public voting, and the 22-year-old won the honour ahead of Jude Bellingham, who came second, and Bukayo Saka voted third.

Palmer debuted with the Three Lions in November of 2023, in their 2-0 win over Malta at Wembley. He had made nine appearances for the side and started twice. He was selected in the Euro 2024 squad for England, playing five times in the competition. He ended with a brilliant assist in the semi-final and a goal in the final, which the Three Lions ended up losing.

There was only one place for the occasion. 🧊

The Chelsea forward is enjoying a great season with the West London club. He has scored six times already this season, including a haul in Chelsea’s 4-2 win against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League, where Palmer scored all of his team’s goals in the first half of the game, becoming the first player to achieve the feat in the English top-tier football league. Arriving from Manchester City last year, Palmer has already scored 28 times from his 40 appearances for Chelsea.

Outside the pitch, the attacking midfielder was also named the PFA Player of the Year in August for his debut season with Chelsea, having already taken home PFA Young Player of the Year on the previous two occasions. Having already scored twice for England, he is also expected to feature in the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Greece on Thursday and then Finland on Sunday.

Palmer is the first Chelsea player to win the award since Ashley Cole won in 2010. Frank Lampard had won the award back-to-back in 2004 and 2005 while at Chelsea. The first player to win the Player of the Year was David Beckham back in 2003. Owen Hargreaves is the only player to have won the award whilst not being part of any Premier League side.

Cole Palmer beat Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka to take home the the award after a fantastic season with Chelsea and for the England team.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
