New Delhi: UFC global star Conor McGregor will not make his high-anticipating return to the octagon this year. McGregor has been waiting for his comeback for two years and now his long-time opponent Michael Chandler is booked for a fight against Charles Oliveira at UFC 309, it is now sure that Chandler is not fighting McGregor in 2024.
Recently, McGregor announced that he will be returning in 2024 to fight against Chandler, and McGregor’s statement also convinced UFC President Dana White. White also didn’t book any main-event fights for UFC 309 and UFC 310 as he is waiting for McGregor’s comeback in the UFC.
Chandler also fired on Conor after he was booked to fight Oliveira at UFC 309. “Conor is the most unreliable human being in the UFC,” Chandler said. Chandler is now focusing on his next fight against Oliveira and will look to fight for the UFC Lightweight title in 2025.
The Conor vs Chandler fight was scheduled at UFC 303 in UFC International fight week but before a few weeks, Conor pulled out from the fight due to his toe injury. Chandler has been waiting to fight McGregor for two years but McGregor is postponing his return.
McGregor has been seen partying, promoting Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) as he became co-owner of the BKFC. McGregor also confirmed that he has been tested 12-13 times in the UFC and he is not fully recovered from the leg injury.
‘Done waiting for McGregor’ says Michael Chandler
Michael Chandler has been waiting for a long time to fight McGregor but now he is done waiting to fight McGregor. He will be fighting against Former UFC Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. It will be a rematch for both fighters as in the first fight Oliveira defeated Chandler and won the UFC lightweight title. Chandler also determined this fight as the ‘revenge fight for him’.
