New Delhi: Union Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Monday announced that the cooking gas or LPG price has been raised by Rs 50 per cylinder by distribution companies.
The minister conformed that the customers using LPG cylinders in both Ujwalla and general categories, will have to pay Rs 50 extra.
With government raising LPG price, price of 14.2-kg LPG cylinder will rise from Rs 803 to Rs 853 for general users and from Rs 503 to Rs 553 per 14.2 kg cylinder for users under the Ujwalla scheme.
In August 2023, the Centre had announced a subsidy of Rs 200 on all domestic LPG cylinders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the price reduction on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan festival.
Later in March 2024, the Modi government slashed the price of a cooking gas cylinder by Rs 100.
As per the government data of July 2024, India imports more than 60 per cent of its domestic LPG consumption. The LPG prices are linked to its price in the international market. However, the government continues to modulate the effective price to consumer for domestic LPG.
The Modi government stated the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in May 2016 with an aim to provide access to clean cooking fuel to poor households in the country. The PMUY scheme enables eligible adult women from poor households to get free LPG connections.
Commercial LPG Cylinder Price
From April 1, 2025, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG gas cylinder was reduced by Rs 41. After the rate cut, the commercial LPG cylinder is available in Delhi for Rs 1762.
Earlier, the rates of commercial LPG cylinders were reduced by Rs 7 on February 1, 2025. The price of a LPG cylinder changes as oil companies revise rates in accordance to global crude oil rates and other factors.
