New Delhi: The legendary, the GOAT, the king, the Indian cricket stalwart and ace batter Virat Kohli put the rumours to rest and announced his departure from Test cricket on Monday. This seems to have brought the cricket world to a halt as several feel Kohli is making an untimely exit from the format, while some are lauding him for making way for the younger generation to take over Indian cricket in due time.
Several reports ran rife in the build-up to this, claiming that the batting sensation had informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his disinterest in continuing in the longest format. The BCCI had reportedly asked him to reconsider his decision owing to the upcoming five-Test series in England, highlighting his experience as crucial during the tour.
There seemed to be an “influential figure” meeting with Kohli to talk him out of retirement, and he was believed to have talked with Rohit Sharma as well, convincing him to give up Test captaincy. Nonetheless, another report surfaced claiming Kohli is still adamant on his retirement call despite BCCI’s best efforts, followed by a report claiming that no effort has been made by the BCCI, and the cricket board never does this, saying that decisions like taking retirement are players’ personal.
