New Delhi: Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo might be on his way out of Saudi club Al Nassr after his contract expires in June. Ronaldo has been linked with multiple clubs over the last few months as the 40-year-old continues to go strong despite his age. While a return to his boyhood club Sporting Lisbon in Portugal hasn’t been ruled out, Ronaldo has reportedly received a tempting offer from Brazilian club Botafogo.

Ronaldo has reportedly grown frustrated at Al Nassr despite being on one of the highest wages in world football at present. The 40-year-old has failed to guide his team to a major silverware in his spell with the Saudi Pro League club, which has added to his frustrations. Ronaldo is reportedly searching for a new club, and many have expressed interest in securing the services of one of the greatest goal scorers to have graced football.

As per a report in Spanish publication Marca, an unnamed Brazilian club has offered Ronaldo a lucrative contract, with the chance of playing for them at the Club World Cup later this year. Al Nassr have failed to qualify for the Club World Cup and will not be part of the tournament that will be played in June-July this year.

Botafogo coach responds to Cristiano Ronaldo rumours

Botafogo head coach Renato Paiva recently responded to the rumours of the club approaching Ronaldo. Paivo said he wouldn’t turn down a chance to sign a player of the Portuguese superstar’s stature, however, he insisted that Botafogo’s American owner John Textor would be the right person to answer a question on the possibility of the club signing Ronaldo.

“Christmas is only in December … But if he came, you can’t say no to a star like that. I don’t know anything. I’m just answering the question. But, as I said, coaches always want the best. Ronaldo, even at his age, is still a goal-scoring machine. In a team that creates chance after chance, he would be good,” Paiva told reporters.

“This question needs to be asked in another language,” he added, hinting that owner John Textor should be asked about the potential offer to Ronaldo.

Botafogo is one of the four Brazilian teams, along with Fluminense, Flamengo and Palmeiras, who will be taking part in the Club World Cup 2025. Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr is set to expire on June 30, and the negotiations have reportedly stalled regarding a new deal. However, it won’t be an easy task for Botafogo to convince Ronaldo to sign for the Brazilian club despite the chance for the Portuguese icon to feature in the Club World Cup.

Ronaldo, who joined Saudi club Al Nassr from Manchester United in 2023, has so far scored 72 goals in 75 appearances for the club across all competitions. The 40-year-old goal machine has scored 33 goals for Al Nassr in 39 matches across competitions, proving that he is still hungry for success and trophies.
