The 40-year-old said, “This chapter is over” in a social media post and all but confirmed his exit from the Saudi league. Ronaldo’s post also hinted at his desire to continue playing at the professional level, but suspense remains over his next move.
With a move to a top European side out of the equation, Major League Soccer and a fairytale return to his first club, Sporting CP, are rumoured to be possible destinations for the world record scorer.

Where will Ronaldo play next?
Nearing the end of a record-breaking $200 million-per-year deal, Ronaldo is set to become a free agent this summer. Despite a prolific two-and-a-half season in Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo failed to win a trophy with Al-Nassr, which finished 13 points behind league champions Al-Ittihad. The Portuguese forward, who has previously mentioned his desire to retire after completing 1000 goals, is nearing the 940-goal mark.
Ronaldo, who scored a whopping 99 goals in 111 games for Al-Nassr, will now turn his attention towards Portugal’s Nations League semi-final against Germany on June 4. The legendary footballer is likely to decide on his club future after the international break.
Amidst links with various clubs, transfer expert Nicolo Schira, as quoted by Goal.com, said: “Monterrey have shown interest in signing Cristiano Ronaldo for Fifa Club World Cup”.
According to the update, the deal has been pushed by Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid teammate and friend, Sergio Ramos, who has promoted and sponsored CR7 to the Mexican club.
Ronaldo and Ramos played together at Santiago Bernabeu for nine years. The Portugal icon won two La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies alongside the Spanish defender.
