New Delhi: India beat Bangladesh by 6 wickets in their opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025 at Dubai International Stadium on Thursday, February 20. With this, the tradition of giving the medal to the ‘Best Fielder of the Match’ is back. This tradition started during the 2023 ODI World Cup and continued in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The medal was also given to the best fielder after the conclusion of the bilateral series.
The Men in Blue had an average day on the field at the Dubai International Stadium with captain Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya dropping easy catches. In the video, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul were shown as the contenders for the medal. KL Rahul won the medal and it was handed over by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Rahul has taken some good catches and has been a consistent fielder behind the stumps.
Mohammed Shami, Shubman Gill shine against Bangladesh
The Men in Blue got off to a great start in the ongoing Champions Trophy and registered a big victory against Bangladesh. Chasing the target of 229 runs, Rohit and Co. secured the win in 46.3 overs. Shubman Gill played a great knock and scored an unbeaten 101 runs off 129 balls with the help of 9 boundaries and 2 maximums.
Rohit also batted aggressively in the powerplay and amassed 41 runs off 36 balls while Gill took his time but changed gears when he got set. KL Rahul came to bat at no.6 and performed brilliantly. The wicketkeeper batter scored 41 runs off 47 balls and finished the match with a maximum over the backward square leg.
Star fast bowler Mohammed Shami also returned to his best in the opening match of the Champions Trophy and picked up five wickets. He removed Soumya Sarkar on a duck in the first over and bowled at a very good pace. Harshit Rana and Axar Patel also bowled brilliantly in the powerplay.
At one point, Bangladesh were reduced to 35/5 but Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali forged a 154-run partnership for the sixth wicket and helped the team to set 229 runs total on the board which the Men in Blue chased down in 46.3 overs. They will face Pakistan in the next Champions Trophy match at the same venue on Sunday, February 23.
