Dal rate in India: After onion, tomato and potato, prices of pulses hurt consumer’s pocket

New Delhi: Dal rates in India are rising with prices of some varieties jumping 11 per cent in June in the national capital. This is not an isolated price hike since essential vegetable prices have also hit new highs. Onion prices have surged 67 per cent in recent weeks. On average, tomato prices surged 31 per cent in recent weeks.

What was the average rise in dal rates in India?

According to data from the consumer affairs ministry, chana dal prices rose 2.13 per cent to Rs 87.96 per kg as of June 19 from Rs 86.12 per kg until May 31.

Arhar dal prices were up 2.58 per cent to Rs 161.27 per kg on June 19 compared to 157.2 per kg on May 31.
Urad dal prices rose 0.71 per cent to Rs 126.69 per kg on June 19 compared to 125.79 per kg on May 31.
Moong dal prices has risen 0.60 per cent to Ra 119.04 per kg from Rs 118.32 per kg earlier.
Masoor dal prices have jumped 0.23 per cent to Rs 94.12 per kg as of June 19 from Rs 93.9 per kg on May 31, 2024.

What was the average change in Dal rates in Delhi?

Dal prices in Delhi have jumped at a faster clip for certain pulses:

Chana dal prices soared 11 per cent to Rs 97 per kg as of June 19 from Rs 87 per kg as of May 31.
Arhar or tur dal prices were up 2.31 per cent to Rs 177 per kg from Rs 173 per kg on May 31.
Urad dal prices in Delhi have surged 3.52 per cent in Delhi to Rs 147 per kg as of June 19 from Rs 142 per kg as of May 31.
Moong dal prices have risen 3.25 per cent during the period under consideration to Rs 127 per kg from Rs 123 per kg earlier.
Masoor dal prices have remained unchanged between May 31 and June 19.

Potato, onion and tomato prices hurt more

Potato prices have risen 8.08 per cent nationwide to Rs 32.23 per kg from Rs 29.82 per kg. The humble tuber’s price has surged 7.14 per kg to Rs 30 per kg in Delhi compared to Rs 28 per kg earlier, according to a TV9 analysis.

Onion prices have jumped 67 per cent in Delhi to an average price of Rs 50 per kg. Nationwide onion prices have risen to Rs 37.83 per kg on June 19 from Rs 32.12 per kg as of May 31.

Tomato prices have also hurt the consumer’s pocket by rising 31.47 per cent to Rs 44.9 per kg from Rs 34.15 per kg earlier. In Delhi, the red fruit now costs Rs 33 per kg, up 18 per cent from Rs 28 per kg on May 31.
