Damian Priest recalls WWE WrestleMania 40 triumph, says he’s been a ‘babyface’ before

New Delhi: Former world champion Damian Priest made an appearance in Monday Night RAW on August 5 at the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore and his day was highlighted by the premiere of his WWE 24 documentary which detailed his journey to the NXT and his famous cash-in at the Wrestlemania 40 earlier this year. In the documentary, Priest admitted that he was well aware of the fact that everyone couldn’t cash in the briefcase successfully.

He also said that he was aware of the word that was around on the internet as fans predicted his name would join the unfortunate club. But on The Grandest Stage, Priest was able to capitalise on an attack by CM Punk over Drew McIntyre, which saw him winning his first World Championship at WrestleMania.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, he talked about his night of the triumph, stating that even on the day of the show, plans could change on short notice. “That whole day at WrestleMania 40, it was insane. So many things had already changed. The closer we got to it, many people who are very, very smart came up to me and said, ‘Things can change.’ So you never know. I knew things could change, even up to the last minute,” he said.

Priest a babyface?

He held on to the world champion title until SummerSlam as he was defeated by Gunther, courtesy of an interference from Balor to become the new champion. Ever since his loss, he has turned “babyface” after being banished from The Judgment Day alongside Rhea Ripley. For those unversed, a babyface is a part of the “face turn” in WWE which means a dramatic change in the persona of an individual – from a heel character (bad guy) to a heroic face character (babyface).

In the interview, Priest noted that he has been a babyface on the main roster before, asserting that this isn’t something new for him and that the recent change is a better reflection of who he is. “I’ve been (babyface) before, but it wasn’t always me. This is me. And it’s cool to have people support me not because they’re told to, but because they want to,” Priest stressed.

He also denied the wild fan theories that came forth after one of his matches and for all the wrong reasons, as fans gossiped about what went wrong with him but he clearly said this wasn’t the case.

In his WWE 24 documentary, Damian Priest reflected on his win at the WrestleMania 40 and also talked about his recent face turn following the events happened at the SummerSlam.  WWE Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
