New Delhi: Professional Game Match Official Ltd or PGMOL, have noted that they are aware of the new developments in allegations against referee David Coote. The 42-year-old was recently suspended over a video that showed him ranting about former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp.
New videos have surfaced in what appears to be showing Coote snorting white powder, allegedly filmed during the Euro 2024, where he was officiating. The clip is a short eight-second duration and shows him with a rolled-up banknote and it is being reported of being filmed 24 hours before he was officiating as VAR assistant in France’s win over Portugal in the quarter-finals played in Hamburg.

The video in question have been published by the Sun two days after video of the first video where he was seen dissing about Klopp and is believed to be from the UEFA appointed hotel room. PGMOL’s spokesperson acknowledged the allegations and are investigating the whole incident.
The spokesperson further noted that the committee still prioritizes Coote’s welfare and is supporting him through this period. UEFA suspended Coote with immediate effect on November 11 after recent videos circulated of his misbehaviour. Coote has yet to give a statement regarding the allegations he is facing right now.
Coote has been officiating games at the Premier League since 2018, and his last outing at the competition was during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa. The English referee was supposed to act as VAR in the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches, but UEFA has refrained from telling which games Coote was supposed to officiate.
The whole incident has shaken fans worldwide, as the integrity of on-field decision-making is repeatedly being scrutinized. Many have questioned the standards of both international and top-tier club-level football. In the spirit of the game, it is true that the game has to be held at its highest order and needs to be officiated by the right individuals.
