New Delhi: After a grand premiere in Mumbai on October 25, 2024, Bollywood legend Anupam Kher had high praise for Arpita Chatterjee’s performance in the solo musical play My Name Is Jaan. Directed by Abanti Chakraborty, the play showcases the extraordinary life of Gauhar Jaan, India’s first gramophone recording artist. Now, Delhi audiences will get the chance to witness this acclaimed production on 18th January 2025 at the Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, Mandi House, Delhi.
Kher, who began his acting journey in theatre at Mumbai’s Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir, was visibly moved by Arpita’s performance. Reflecting on the experience, he said, “You were remarkable, Arpita. What range of emotions, what grace, what a voice! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a performance of such calibre.”
The veteran actor also shared how he nearly missed the show due to a prior commitment in Dehradun but stayed back after hearing about Arpita’s portrayal of Gauhar Jaan. “I learnt so much from you today,” Kher added, praising her seamless transitions between acting and live singing, which brought Gauhar’s vibrant journey to life.
