Did Rohit Sharma and men bring back a fake T20 World Cup trophy from Barbados?

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team returned home with the coveted ICC T20 World Cup title from Barbados on Thursday, July 4. After being stuck for four days in Barbados, Rohit Sharma and Co. finally landed in Delhi and were felicitated there before going to Mumbai for a open bus victory parade and second round of felicitation at the iconic Wankhede stadium.

But did Team India bring back a fake World Cup trophy from Barbados? Or is this the real one that was presented to them after they were declared winners of the 2024 edition. Let’s find out.

Trophy a replica of the original one

The trophy that Rohit Sharma and his men lifted in Barbados and one they carried back home are not the same but different. Yes, you heard it right. Actually, this is a practice which has been going on for ages.

The winning team is presented the original ICC Trophy after they clinch the finale for the picture shoot and once that’s done, the original trophy is taken back by the ICC. A replica of the original trophy which looks similar is then presented to the team so that they can take it back to their home country.

Where’s the original trophy?

The question that comes to the mind is that what happens with the original trophy and where is it kept? The original trophy, after the photoshoot, is taken back and secured at ICC headquarters in Dubai. This is a practice which has been going on for years and was followed for the T20 World Cup 2024 as well.

Meanwhile, India produced a splendid effort to clinch an ICC trophy after a gap of 11 years as they edged past South Africa in a thrilling final in Barbados. While star batter Virat Kohli shined with the bat, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah excelled with the bowl to power India to a victory.

Team India produced a sensational show in the summit clash against South Africa to clinch the T20 World Cup 2024 title.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
