‘Don’t believe in attention’: Ravichandran Ashwin opens up after shocking retirement

New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin shocked the cricketing world by announcing sudden retirement from Test cricket. Ashwin is the seventh highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 537 scalps with the red cherry at an average of 24.00.

Many legends of the game raised concern about Ashwin’s unexpected retirement as he only played in one test match out of three against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After India managed to enforce the draw in the third Test in Brisbane, Ashwin walked into the press conference to call his time on his 14-year phenomenal international career. He refrained from taking any questions in that press conference.

In his first interview to a broadcaster after the retirment, the Indian all-rounder has touched upon the most important decision of his life.

“I’ve never been a person who holds onto things, I’ve never felt insecure in life, I don’t believe what is mine today is going to be mine tomorrow. That has probably been one of my elevating factors all these years,” Ashwin said on Sky Sports.

Ashwin’s passion for the game was unmatchable and he had no regrets in announcing the sudden retirement. He has a great cricket career by playing a key role in winning ICC ODI World Cup 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013.

“The amount of exploration I have had to do to be very successful has left me with a wide variety of knowledge to be able to say, with confidence, that this is a game I love and can explore and brutally talk about for the rest of my life,” Ashwin added.

“I always wanted to leave things behind as nonchalantly as I can because I do not believe in people celebrating me, I don’t believe in the attention we get sometimes in India. It is the game that always stood ahead of me, all the time.”

Tanuh Kotian joins Indian squad amid fourth Test match against Australia

Mumbai’s all-rounder Tanush Kotian has replaced Ravichandran Ashwin in the Indian squad for the remaining two Test matches against Australia in Melbourne and Sydney. Kotain has a spectacular record in the domestic cricket. He scored 1525 runs in 47 innings and took 101 wickets in 33 matches, averaging 25.70 in the first-class innings.

One of the best off-spinner in the world, Ravichandran Ashwin shocks the world by announcing his sudden retirement from Test cricket.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
