New Delhi: Grammy Award-winning rapper Drake has made headlines with his “first ever cricket bet” on Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) finals. The much-anticipated match, held in Chennai today, pits KKR against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

On Saturday, Drake took to Instagram Stories to share a screenshot of his bet, showing a stake of $250,000 (Rs 2.07 crore approx.) on KKR with 1.70 odds. If KKR wins, Drake stands to earn an estimated payout of $425,000 (Rs 3.52 crore). The rapper humorously captioned the post, “Since @ovorajaju team is out, I am going with KKR for my first ever cricket bet (teary-eyed laughter emoji) Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo.”

Drake’s manager, Sureshkumar Subramaniam, who goes by the Instagram handle @ovorajaju, influenced this decision. While the IPL team supported by Subramaniam remains a mystery, it’s clear that Drake has placed his confidence in KKR for this high-stakes match.

Drake’s betting curse

While Drake has already placed his bet on KKR, fans are not taking the news quite well. Many don’t know that the rapper is infamous for placing bets and losing money. Fans of KKR are now worried if the Drake betting curse affects the IPL finals match tonight (May 26).

KKR’s journey to the finals has been impressive. They topped the league stage with nine wins, three losses, and two no results, totalling 20 points. Their direct spot in the final was secured after defeating SRH in the first qualifier. SRH, however, fought back by winning the second qualifier against Rajasthan Royals by 36 runs, earning their place in the finals.

Khan fam in Chennai for IPL finals

The IPL finals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai promise not just an exciting cricket match but also a star-studded affair. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of KKR, is expected to attend with his family, including wife Gauri Khan, sons Aryan Khan and AbRam Khan, daughter Suhana Khan, and her friends Ananya Panday and Shanaya Kapoor. Juhi Chawla, another co-owner of KKR, along with her husband Jay Mehta, are also likely to be present.

Adding to the entertainment, American band Imagine Dragons is set to perform during the closing ceremony at 6 PM, an hour before the match starts at 7 PM.
