New Delhi: Rishabh Pant endured a dismal outing as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lost by 1 wicket in a thrilling encounter against Delhi Capitals (DC) in their opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season in Vizag on Monday. Ashutosh Sharma played a blinder of a knock of take DC home in a nerve-wracking chase as Axar Patel & Co. snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
Pant had an off day with the bat as he was dismissed on a six-ball duck and also missed out on a crucial stumping chance in the final over of the game. Pant also failed to impress as captain as LSG failed to defend a strong total of 209 runs despite being in a strong position after taking early wickets during DC’s run-chase.
Following the conclusion of the game, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was spotted having a long intense chat with skipper Pant with head coach Justin Langer standing alongside the duo. A clip of the incident went viral on social media, reminding fans of Goenka’s heated conversation with former LSG skipper KL Rahul during IPL 2024 last year.
Though Goenka didn’t seem to be angry during his conversation with Pant, fans were quick to react to the viral clip. Many also criticised the LSG owner for being ‘impatient’ with his captain and the team and interfering too much in team affairs.

Ashutosh Sharma’s game-changing knock steered DC to victory
Ashutosh Sharma was the star with the bat for Delhi Capitals as he played a game-changing knock of an unbeaten 66 off just 31 balls to help his team chase down the target of 210 runs with three balls to spare in Vizag. DC were reeling at 50/4 after a top-order collapse and were soon reduced to 65/5 when Ashutosh walked in to bat.
He combined with Tristan Stubbs (34) to share a 48-run stand for the sixth wicket before adding another important stand of 45 runs with Vipraj Nigam, who played a brilliant cameo of 15-ball 39. Ashutsoh’s 31-ball 66 was laced with 5 sixes and as many fours as he took Delhi Capitals over the line with 1 wicket and 3 balls to spare.
