New Delhi: Star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo announced his retirement from the Caribbean Premier League on Saturday saying that he will feature for the last time in the ongoing 2024 season. Bravo made the announcement public just hours before the Trinbago Knight Riders’ (TKR) opening game of CPL 2024 which is against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Basseterre. Bravo is widely hailed for being the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket.
The 40-year-old former West Indies cricketer took to his Instagram account to make the announcement, also sharing a video of his notable moments from the CPL. The video consisted of bytes from Bravo who looked back on his 12-year-long CPL career where he featured for two franchises but played for Knight Riders the most. He has already played nine seasons for them and will hang his boots after playing a 10th (2024).

This season will be my last one and I’m looking forward to a playing my final professional tournament in front of my Caribbean ppl! @tkriders – where it all started for me and will end with my team that I help built from scratch! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!” Bravo wrote as the caption.
Bravo’s CPL retirement comes nearly three years after he bid farewell to his international T20 career following West Indies’ early exit at the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE. He called it quits from IPL in 2023 and has since been serving as Chennai Super Kings’ bowling coach in the league.
Bravo’s CPL stint
Ever since the league’s inception in 2013, Bravo is currently the highest wicket-taker in the CPL, having picked 128 wickets in 103 games at an average of 22.40 and an economy rate of 8.69. To show his all-round efforts, he has hit 1155 runs in the last 11 seasons at an average of 21 and a strike rate of 129.62.
Bravo is the most decorated CPL player so far, having won a total of five titles, including four with TKR alone. Bravo hopes to end his CPL career with a fifth title with TKR. He first lifted the title in 2015 and then captained the side in 2017 and 2018, leading them to back-to-back titles. In 2020, he won it again but as a TKR player. He switched teams in 2021 as he captained the Patriots to their first title in 2021.
Having played for TKR since the inaugural season i.e. 2013, Bravo remained part of the team till 2020 and shifted base for the next two seasons (2021-2022) at Patriots. Ahead of the 2023 season, he returned to TKR and will be playing his final CPL season with them.
Trinbago Knight Riders will kick off their CPL 2024 campaign on Saturday in Basseterre with a clash against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, who have already won their first game.
