Early problems over food and transportation solved, says Paris Olympics organisers

New Delhi: Initial logistical teething problems over food and transportation have been addressed, Paris Olympics organisers claimed on Monday.

Several visiting delegations have compained about the quality and quantity of food on offer after catering staff limited number of breakfast eggs.

Indian shooters have complained abot lack of adequate food in the Indian counter while six South Korean swimmers decided to move out of te Games Village and stay at a hotel near their competition venue to limit time to commute in hot buses.

“Regarding the food we’ve had to make some adjustments, which is normal in operations that size, 2024 Paris Olympics CEO Etienne Thobois said at a press conference, as quoted by Reuters.

“There has been a reinforcement in animal proteins with 700 kilos of eggs and a ton of meat (available) to meet the demands of the athletes, who we place at the heart of the Paris 2024 experience.”

The Games organisers had focussed more on organic and vegetarian products made mostly in France, with 600 tonnes of fresh produce used to provide around 40,000 meals per day to 15,000 athletes in the Olympic Village.

But athletes have demanded more meat to be served at the counters with Australia, having 460 athletes, shipping in over three tons of tuna, 10,000 muesli bars and 2,400 meat pies, as well as three baristas to make more than 20,000 shots of coffee.

“At the beginning of the operations we’ve had some problems concerning the transportation of the athletes, especially before the Games started,” Thobois said.

“We’ve taken measures since then with reserve (buses) to serve the athletes in the best possible way and I think the system is now operating perfectly.”
