Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 struck the Panama-Costa Rica border region on Monday, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said.

The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), GFZ said.

The epicenter was located about 7 km (4 miles) southeast of the town of Puerto Armuelles, in the border region between the two Central American nations, according to the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama.

Officials stated that it might temporarily close transportation infrastructure in the tremor zone to assess for damage. While minor disruptions may occur during these shutdowns, services are expected to resume promptly if no damage is detected. Utility outages could also happen, especially near the earthquake’s epicenter, they said.
