New Delhi : The CPI(M) central committee has disapproved and rejected the claims and reasons for its electoral defeat that was put forward by the Kerala State unit. The central leadership has urged the party for a deep introspection and hence to analyze the reasons for its vote share eroding from all the constituencies.
The state committee contended at the crucial meeting attended by CPI(M) national secretary Sitharam Yechury and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that the party’s stance in the centre by offering support to the Congress and opposing the same party in the state has backfired.
‘When the party adopt such as stance, there are lot of limitations as it needs to explain the public. This political stance has one of the reasons for the loss’, told the state committee leaders at the crucial meeting that was held at the AKG bhavan in New Delhi on June 28th.
“The CPI(M) leadership at the centre is unhappy with the explanation given by the state leadership especially on how the party lost its core vote share in Alappuzha, Kannur, Kasaragod and Attingal where the votes of OBC and SC community drifted from the party towards the BJP. The BJPs victory in Thrissur has become a major embarrassment for the party as the CPI candidate had a good chance to win”, said a senior CPM leader under conditions of anonymity.
Meanwhile the report submitted by CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan had mentioned that when the party is part of the INDIA alliance led by the Congress, the minorities in the state might not take a decision in favour of the CPI(M), but the Congress party since a large section of the minorities wanted to vote against the BJP. One of the biggest takeaway of the crucial meeting is that all members has agreed to the fact that there is a deep crisis looming within the party and the core issues needs to be addressed going forward.
The central committee meeting was more focused on the electoral outcome in Kerala.
Representing Kerala, Elamaram Kareem and TM Thomas Issac had taken part in the discussions.
