New Delhi: Tesla CEO and X chairperson Elon Musk, who has been critical of US President Joe Biden, has made a ‘sizeable’ donation to a political group supporting Republican Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign, claimed a Bloomberg report. Though the exact amount of the donation has not been disclosed, sources indicated it was ‘sizeable’.
Musk, who had earlier stated he would not contribute to either Trump or Biden’s campaigns, has donated to America PAC (Political Action Committee). The PAC is set to release its list of donors on July 15.
This donation is noteworthy given Musk’s background as a South African immigrant in the U.S. and Trump’s known stance on strict anti-immigration policies. Despite this contribution, Musk has not publicly endorsed any candidate.
The timing of Musk’s donation is significant as Trump has recently surpassed Biden in fundraising, with support from Wall Street and corporate donors. Biden’s fundraising efforts have declined, partly due to a challenging presidential debate with Trump and growing health concerns. Some Democrats have even urged Biden to reconsider his re-election bid.
Trump, who is anticipated to be the Republican nominee for the November 5 election, had previously met with Musk and other donors in March. However, Trump has since denied media reports suggesting that Musk might be given an advisory role if he becomes president.
