New Delhi: After navigating through some odds in late last year, British tennis star Emma Raducanu is all geared up to take part in the Australian Open 2025 beginning on Sunday. The former US Open winner, who is in Melbourne preparing for the first Grand Slam of then season, has revealed that how an insect bite had cast a a slight doubt on her participation in the Australian Open.
Raducanu revealed that her hand and foot ballooned up after she was bitten by jumping ants and after flying to Australian, the ace tennis player suffered further problems because of the indigenous insects. She said that she was bitten really badly by the jumping ants because of which she had an allergic reaction.

She further revealed that her hand and foot swelled up to an extent where she had to come on site to see the doctor and get some remedies. Additionally, she also said that she refused to be treated with a spray amid fears of accidentally doping. The tennis star, who was considered a big name in the sport some time back, said that she is fine now and all set to take part in the big event to be staged at the Melbourne Park.
The tennis player was also forced to withdraw from her warm-up tournament in Auckland, New Zealand because of a back spasm triggered when she was tying up her shoelaces before practice. She said that she will be extra vigilant going forward to avoid any unexpected incident that keeps her out of action.
Raducanu will be up against number 26 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in her first round match of the Australian Open on Tuesday. They were set to meet at the same stage of Wimbledon last year but the latter withdrew before the contest.
