England’s next manager: Who will take over the reins from Lee Carsley?

England’s next manager: Who will take over the reins from Lee Carsley?

New Delhi: As England’s Nations League campaign got back on track with a 3-1 victory over Finland, Lee Carsley voiced his happiness. However, the temporary manager made it clear that he wasn’t focused on landing the position long-term. Following victories at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium thanks to goals from Declan Rice, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Jack Grealish, England now trails Greece in Group B2 with nine points from four games. This outcome was a much-needed reaction to Carsley’s 2-1 loss to Greece at Wembley on Thursday, which was his first since taking command after Gareth Southgate left.

However, it is not quite certain that Lee Carlsley is willing to stay and take the full time job as the England manager after his views on taking up the job. Lee Carsley feels that he is not qujite ready to take the full time job as he feels that the Three Lions deserve a much more experienced coach who has won trophies, while he is still trying to hit that level of success. While his future with the Three Lions looks uncertain, just few months after he was appointed due to Gareth Southgate’s stepping down as the England manager, there are some serious candidates who can take over.

Graham Potter

Back in the month of April, Graham Potter was officially sacked by the Chelsea management, after his disappointing stint at the club. Since then, the 49 year old has not been approached for a new job, but now there are strong possibilities that Potter might take up the England post to replace Lee Carsley. The English manager spent three years at Brighton, and he managed to get them to an impressive sixth placed finish before moving to Chelsea in the year 2022.

Despite having a bad few months at Chelsea, it looks likely that the English manager might get the chance to bring back the reputation he had during his Brighton days. Considering England’s philosophy of appointing English managers, suits Potter’s situation perfectly as he is one of the better known managers from England, with Premier League experience.

Eddie Howe

One of the main contenders, who has also been linked with the Three Lions for a while now, is Newcastle manager Eddie Howe. The 46 year old has enjoyed a few good seasons with the Toons, and he managed to bring them back to the Champions League, finishing 4th in the 2022/23 season. Since then, he has truly transformed the Newcastle side, as the fans are expecting at least a top half finish every season. This has been a tremendous transformation by Eddie Howe, who has played a crucial role in Newcastle’s success.

It won’t be surprising to see Howe take up the England job as he has also been linked with them ever since Southgate’s exit started to look likely during the time of Euros. Besides, his style of play which involves heavy pressing and high attacking threat that his team produces on the pitch, which can be a huge plus point for the English side, consodering the shot shine nature and attacking quality of the squad.

Joachim Low

As England look for a replacement for Lee Carsley, Joachim Low would welcome an approach from the FA as he was stated during the Euros that he would love to manage the English side. Following Germany’s elimination from the European Championship at Wembley in the round of 16, the 64-year-old resigned as manager of Germany in 2021. Naturally, Low would be delighted to talk to the FA about trying to guide the Three Lions to their first title since 1966 after winning the World Cup in 2014.

However, the philosophy of not bringing in a foreign coach might just be the only barrier that would stop this potential appointment. Low has the experience and the calibre to lead this English side to glory, as he has already proven himself in the past for the German side.

Steven Gerrard

Gerrard has so far had a stint of mixed results at Al Ettifaq, as his team sits 8th in the league. However, he might be a surprise pick of this list, but the Liverpool legend can certainly be one of the top candidates to take the job. However, his coaching career has not quite gone the way he would’ve wanted, but he has shown signs that he can do the job well for the Three Lions, after his invincible season at Rangers, winning the Premiership with ease with a record 102 points. However, while it might not be the most concrete or major rumour, it might turn out to be a massive step taken by the Three Lions.

Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola’s recent suggestion that “anything can happen” in his future has left the door open for him to eventually manage England. The Premier League’s lawsuit accusing Manchester City of more than 100 financial violations, which City denies, is compounding the uncertainty surrounding the four time champions, as Guardiola’s contract with the team expires at the end of the current Premier Legaue campaign.

Guardiola recently emphasized that he has a deep connection and love for Manchester City and has not ruled out signing an extension, but he has not yet made a final choice despite rumors that he will take over as permanent England manager in place of Lee Carsley who has shown his doubts regarding the permanent England job.

Current interim England manager Lee Carsley has his doubts upon taking the England job, which raises a question that who will take the charge and become the next England manager.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
