Explained: Why Inter Milan will wear their gold kit for UCL final

New Delhi: Inter Milan will walk out onto the pitch in their third kit this Saturday for the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. The Munich will see Italian giants wearing striking golden yellow shirts with black accents paired with black shorts. It’s a bold move both visually and symbolically as for the first time, Inter will not wear their iconic black and blue stripes or even their standard away kit as they chase their first Champions League title in 15 years.

In their six previous appearances dating back to their first in 1964, Inter have always stuck to either their home or away colors but this weekend the tradition will change.

Why golden kit?

The kit decision is rooted in UEFA’s match regulations. As Paris Saint-Germain are designated the “home” team for the final, they will take the field in their classic navy blue outfit, complete with the club’s signature red-and-white vertical stripe. That kit clashes with Inter’s usual black and blue home jersey, making it unwearable for the final.

Under normal circumstances, this would mean Inter defaulting to their white away kit with blue details. But the Nerazzurri have opted for something different and maybe even a little superstitious.

A lucky charm in yellow so far?

There is more behind the decision than just aesthetics or UEFA’s kit guidelines. Inter’s golden third kit has brought them nothing but good fortune in Europe this season. They have worn it only twice in the competition and won both times.

In January, they edged out Sparta Prague 1-0 while wearing the yellow strip. Then in March, they secured a vital first-leg win against Feyenoord in the round of 16, once again dressed in gold. Interestingly, their only loss in this Champions League campaign came while wearing their white away kit, falling to Bayer Leverkusen in December.

With that record in mind, the choice to go with the third kit starts to feel less like a deviation from tradition and more like a deliberate, perhaps superstitious, strategy.

Manager Simone Inzaghi and his squad know the magnitude of Saturday’s final. The decision to wear the golden kit is more than just a fashion statement it’s a nod to what’s worked so far. In a high-stakes match where every detail counts, even something as simple as the color of a shirt can carry weight.

Inter fans will be hoping the golden look translates to golden memories as the club aims to lift the Champions League trophy for the fourth time in its history.
