New Delhi: India is not only focusing on strengthening infrastructure capabilities but also intellectual preparedness as the nation eyes bagging 2036 Olympic rights, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha said on Wednesday. After expressing their interest in hosting the massive event in 2036, India submitted its bid formally for the Olympics hosting.

Last month, IOA submitted the bid to the IOA host commission, sending them a Letter of Intent in the same regard. Meanwhile, Usha, who was a former track and field star from India, noted that the country’s engagement with the international games goes beyond competitive sports. In her address at the 1st International Olympic Research Conference, PT Usha said that the nation wants to embrace the true spirit of Olympisim, that is promoting peace, education and cultural exchange through the means of sports.

Experts from diverse fields converge in India

At the four-day conference, which has been organised by the Bharat Centre for Olympic Research and Education (B-CORE) of the RRU, experts from many diverse fields have converged in the nation in addition to the representatives from various Olympic studies. The IOA president further lauded the timing of the conference, saying that this makes it more significant.

The former athlete, who dominated Asian track and field in the 1980s, said that for India to host the Olympics, its important to be fully prepared in terms of research also. She further stated that the four-day event will serve as a platform where global expertise will come in touch with the nations innovation through discussion on technological advancements, urban transformation and sustainability.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 38th National Games in Dehradun, said that his government is putting all their effort to bag the hosting rights for the 2036 Olympics, which will take the Indian sporting sector to new heights.
