New Delhi: The fan who breached security to meet Virat Kohli during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has been arrested. The fan climbed over the fences installed inside the Eden Gardens and ran on the pitch during RCB’s run-chase against KKR in the opening game of the IPL 2025 season.
The incident occurred when Kohli batted with RCB skipper Rajat Patidar during the team’s 175-run chase against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. In a video that went viral on social media, the fan can be seen breaching security to enter the ground before running towards Kohli, who was on the striker’s end. The fan touched Kohli’s feet before hugging him.
The security personnel intervened to separate the fan from Kohli and later escorted him out of the ground. The fan was later arrested by Kolkata Police for breaching security inside the stadium.

Kohli played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 59 runs off 36 balls to help RCB beat Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets and kick off their IPL 2025 campaign with a thumping victory. Kohli opened the batting with Phil Salt in the game and the duo took the KKR bowlers to the cleaners en route to a 95-run opening stand to set up the stage for a commanding win for RCB.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru brought an end to a four-match losing streak to beat Kolkata Knight Riders for the first time since IPL 2022. RCB bowlers led by spinner Krunal Pandya did well to restrict KKR to 177 despite brilliant knocks from Ajiniya Rahane (56) and Sunil Narine (44). Pandya took a three-wicket haul to bag the Player of the Match award.
RCB batters then combined to produce a clinical show in the run-chase and make light work of the 175-run target. Kohli and Salt slammed half-centuries apiece to star in the chase and propel RCB to their first win of the season.
