New Delhi: Bhopal, a city in Madhya Pradesh, is one of the most beautiful places in the country. And during monsoon, the beauty of the place increases manifold. Also, the rainy season is the time of the arrival of the migratory birds, with the other major season being winter. But how have migratory birds greeted Bhopal this season? You will find out about it in this article.
Bhopal, monsoon and migratory birds
With the arrival of monsoon, hundreds of domestic migratory birds have flown to Bhopal to enjoy the lush greenery of the place, according to a report by the Free Press Journal. Not just the domestic migratory birds, but the lakes of the city are also housing the Jacobin Cuckoo, a native bird of South Africa. During the monsoon, it stays in the grasslands around the water bodies.
The report states that during monsoon, Jacobin Cuckoo prefers the environment of Bhopal as its habitat. The bird, which is black and white, arrives at Bhopal before the monsoon as the temperature in Africa during this period is not suitable for them. Once the monsoon is over, the bird goes back to where it came from.
The other migratory birds
As per the report, apart from the Jacobin Cuckoo which comes from a faraway land, numerous domestic migratory birds from different states in South India arrive at Bhopal during monsoon and make it their home. For example, the Indian Pitta which is famous for its nine different colours, reaches Bhopal during the monsoon only. Another such bird is the Common Hawk Cuckoo which has white lines on its stomach, lays its eggs in nests of other birds and is also found in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
Reportedly, this monsoon in Bhopal has also witnessed the nesting of the Indian Paradise Flycatcher, which mostly goes by the name Doodhraj in huge numbers. Abudants nests of the birds have been spotted and one can find domestic migratory birds in Bhopal mainly near the wetland areas.
