Festive sugar binge left you with acne? Dermatologist shares a simple solution

New Delhi: During festive seasons, it’s all about decking up with your makeup, with the amount of pollution that comes in the festivals, which includes colors during Holi, or just celebrations that bring about applying color to each other’s skin, or you have the months of Diwali where firecrackers are burst, and with these firecrackers comes in a lot of pollution that can also again affect the skin. Thirdly, with festivals also come food intake, which includes sugars, fats, oils, and sweets, and that again can trigger a lot of inflammation in the skin, can trigger acne, the sensitivity of the skin, pre-existing skin lesions like face psoriasis, face eczemas, can all aggravate with sweet intake.

In an interaction with News9Live, Dr. Pravin Banodkar, Dermatologist and Co-Founder of Skin Beyond Borders (SkinBB), explained the association between breakouts and sugar binge.

“Diet and having a good skincare routine work very well during festivals because they keep the inflammation of the skin under control, keep the barrier of the skin very well intact, and also protect the skin from the damages that might occur, which I had mentioned earlier, which can be either sugars through food intake, which can trigger acne, so a regular skin routine can control oil gland activity by using the right products of course, and of course applying a good moisturiser and sunscreen to reduce the amount of damage that might be happening at the skin level concerning the pollution, makeup, makeup removal, so on and so forth,” said Dr Banodkar.

How to keep your skin healthy during the festive season?

Use the appropriate products, so for example, if you have acne-prone skin, you use anti-acne products in your routine, if you have skin that details, you take in antioxidants and apply vitamin C and similar products that help reduce the tan or damage on the skin. So, maintaining a good skincare routine works very well during the festive season.
