FIFA 2024 Awards: Indian footballer Dalima Chhibber presents Marta award to Marta

New Delhi: A historic moment for the Brazilian footballer Marta, who won the first ever Marta-award, which has been awarded to her for an incredible solo strike against Jamaica where the Brazilian international won the ball in the opposition territory and beat a Jamaican defender to fire a shot that hit the net. Marta award is equavalent to men’s Puskas award which was earlier won by Manchester United’s youngster, Alejandro Gernacho for his unbelievable bicycle strike against Everton.

Marta wins the very first ‘Marta Award’ for best women’s football goal of 2024.

Marta has been a sensational figure in the women’s football. The “Queen of Football,” Marta Vieira da Silva, has received numerous individual honors during her soccer career, including FIFA World Player of the Year in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2018. The only player to win the prize five times in a row and this year she has yet another award added to her decorated cabinet where she has won more around 20 awards.

It was a special night for India football as Dalima Chhibber, the Indian women’s international footballer presented the first ever Marta award to the Brazilian icon, Marta. For those who don’t know who Dalima Chhibber is, she is a defender for both Kickstart and the women’s Indian national team. During the 2016 South Asian Games against the Maldives, Dalima made her debut for her country. She was then consistently selected for the national squad.

On March 20, 2019, she scored her maiden goal against Bangladesh in the 2019 SAFF Women’s Championship. In the SAFF Championship final versus Nepal, she scored her second goal with a 40-yard free kick. In the 2019 SAFF Women’s Championship, she won the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament Award for her outstanding performance. A true icon for all the aspiring female footballers of India as she makes history tonight, representing India at the biggest stage of football.
