New Delhi: The football governing body, FIFA, along with broadcast and technology company Hawk-Eye have collaborated to establish the Football Technology Centre AG. The new partnership will focus on advancing emerging technologies in soccer, with a focus on creating algorithms to automate the detection of on-field events in order to improve decision-making.
Aside from this, the partnership will also look to develop automated offside technology. The technology is claimed to give instant, consistent, and accurate data to match officials and will improve the speed of the whole decision-making operation regarding offside incidents.
Mattia Grafstrom, FIFA’s secretary general, has said that the partnership is an example of how much FIFA is interested in bringing new technology to help with the functionality of football. The partnership will also help in developing new technology that will ultimately benefit all the 211 associations of the board.
Further, Grafstorm felt that the partnership would impact the football world in a wide range with the “provision” of data, easing the decision-making process and enhancing the whole football experience for all concerned stakeholders.
How Hawk-eye views the partnership?
Rufus Hack, chief executive of Hawk-Eye, gave his opinion on the partnership and noted that as football is highly competitive and the sports technology industry is improving daily, the company looks at the future with a more strategic viewpoint. He further expressed that they were excited to collaborate with FIFA to create more innovative solutions to keep the game engaging.
Further the solutions will help the game to function in a precise and fair way. Hawk-eye believe that Football Technology Centre is a way to help improve their relationship with FIFA and will ultimately help the supervision become easier as well as involve more fans as AI and technology become more involved. FIFA and Hawk-eye have been partners since 2017 and have been collaborating in the top leagues of football.
