First Vande Bharat Sleeper Trainset unveiled [VIDEO]; Vaishnaw says ‘fares are reasonable’

New Delhi: The prototype of the sleeper version of the much-awaited Vande Bharat was unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on September 1, 2024. The Vande Bharat Sleeper is equipped with several advanced features like an austenitic stainless steel body and has EN45545 HL4 grade fire standard requirements. The train is equipped with new air conditioning features, temperature control, Oxygen level maintenance system, newly designed toilets, new generation of seats with high class material, and various world class safety measures.

Railways Minister Vaishnaw also assured people that the fare structure of Vande Bharat trains is reasonable and meant for Middle class families.

Vande Bharat Sleeper train features

BEML is tasked to manufacture the Vande Bharat sleeper trains. The train is being designed meticulously and every aspect from the nose cone to the interiors including panels, seats are being taken care of. The sleeper version will have remotely operated fire barrier doors at the end wall, ergonomically designed odour-free toilet system. The train sets will have automatic plug sliding passenger doors and 1st AC class will have shower facilities with hot water. The trainsets will be equipped with 823 berths and will be suitable for broad gauge travel (1,676 mm).

The Vande Bharat sleeper train will consist of 16 coaches, including 11 AC three-tier, four AC two-tier and one AC first. In the Third Ac category, there will be 611 berths, AC two-tier coaches 188 berths, and 24 in the AC first class coach.

The sleeper version of the Vande Bharat will have an integrated reading light, USB charging, inside display panels and security cameras, modular pantries, special berths and toilets for differently-abled passengers and other world class features.

The trainsets will also be equipped with special facilities for serving staff and specially designed cabins and toilets for pilots.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on September 1, 2024 flagged off India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset at BEML’s Bangalore rail complex. The trainset has been indigenously designed and manufactured by BEML, India’s leading rail and metro manufacturer.

“This is a historic moment for the country. The much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset is now set to run on Indian Railways tracks, providing our people with a world-class travel experience and best-in-class amenities. The dedication and expertise of BEML’s leadership and engineers have made this remarkable achievement possible,” Vaishnaw said.
