New Delhi: Jordan Henderson is set to make another move in his football career, with reports confirming he will leave Ajax for AS Monaco. After joining the Dutch club in 2023 from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ettifaq, the 34-year-old midfielder’s time at Ajax has come to an unexpected end. Despite being appointed captain and featuring regularly for the Eredivisie side, things haven’t gone as planned for Henderson.

The midfielder, who made 17 league appearances and 12 in the Europa League this season, will now join Monaco on an 18-month deal running until 2026.

This move comes as a surprise to many, especially considering Henderson’s excitement when he first joined Ajax. According to reports, the deal has been finalised, and the England international is set for a new chapter in Ligue 1. AS Monaco, currently third in the league and looking to secure Champions League qualification, will be a fresh challenge for Henderson, who will reunite with former Liverpool teammate Takumi Minamino.

Jordan Henderson’s Ajax departure and AS Monaco move

Although Henderson was named Ajax captain, reports suggest that his time in Amsterdam has been far from smooth. Issues have reportedly arisen behind the scenes, including a bust-up with teammate Bertrand Traore during a Europa League match. While Henderson did contribute to the team, making regular appearances, his departure from Ajax is seen as a decision made in search of new opportunities.

AS Monaco, who are in the Champions League knockout stages, have made a strong push for top-tier European football and will benefit from Henderson’s experience.

The French side’s squad is among the youngest in Ligue 1, and the arrival of a player with Henderson’s leadership qualities could help them in their bid for further success. The move will also provide Henderson with the chance to potentially face Liverpool, his former club, in the Champions League last-16 if Monaco progress past the play-offs.

Jordan Henderson is set to leave Ajax for Monaco after just over a year, with reports confirming the deal. The 34-year-old midfielder will join the Ligue 1 side on an 18-month contract.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
