Bavaria (Germany): Former Rolls-Royce head of design, Ian Cameron, has died after he was stabbed in a suspected robbery attempt by the attackers at his mansion in Bavaria on Friday.

According to police, it is suspected that the attackers were trying to steal cars from the collection Cameron had made.

“Cameron’s wife, Verena Kloos, also a car designer, fled to a neighbour and alerted the emergency services, police said while adding that they are looking for the suspects. Cameron’s wife remained unhurt.

Cameron started his career at Pininfarina in 1975 before moving to Iveco, and joined BMW in 1992. After leaving BMW he set up as a freelance design consultant with Ian Cameron Design Partners.

In a statement, Rolls-Royce said, “Ian played a significant role in shaping Rolls-Royce from when it was first acquired by BMW Group and moved to its home at Goodwood, West Sussex.”

“During Ian’s tenure he led the design team for all Phantom family and Ghost models, creating thoroughly contemporary motor cars that remained sympathetic to the marque’s design heritage. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this very difficult time,” they added.

The British designer who died at the age of 74 also spent 20 years at the BMW group and worked on the design of cars such as the BMW 3 Series and Z8, and the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Ghost.
