Frank Sinatra was born in New Jersey on December 12, 1915, to Italian immigrants. His musical career began during the swing era, when big band swing music was the most popular music in the US, especially among teenagers and the vocal style of Bing Crosby influenced Sinatra greatly.
In 1943, he sang with Columbia Records and became successful as a solo artist. He became the idol of the ‘Bobby Soxers’, a a subculture of young women in the mid-to-late 1940s who wore loose-fitting clothes and most notably bobby socks.
In 1960, Sinatra started his own music label Reprise Records and released many popular albums. He released ‘It Might as Well Be Swing’ and ‘September of My Years’ and also starred in the ‘Frank Sinatra: A Man and His Music’. In early 1966, his ‘Sinatra at the Sands’ was released. In 1971, he retired after “My Way” was released but two years later, he came out of retirement.
