This victory marks Sabalenka’s third consecutive quarterfinal appearance at Roland Garros and her tenth straight Grand Slam quarterfinal overall.
Sabalenka came into the match with confidence, having defeated Anisimova at the 2019 French Open. She looked composed and in control throughout the contest. In the opening set, she secured a crucial break at 6-5 and capitalised on Anisimova’s errors to take the lead.
