New Delhi: During a rally in Pennsylvania, there was an apparent assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump. The gunfire caused panic, and Trump, who claimed to have been shot in the ear, was quickly surrounded by Secret Service agents and escorted into his SUV while making a defiant gesture. According to Trump’s campaign, he is “fine” after the shooting, which he said hit the upper part of his right ear. “I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place,” Trump wrote on his social media site. It is not the first time a US President has faced an assassination. US Presidents assassinated

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, was assassinated on April 14, 1865, by John Wilkes Booth while attending a performance of a comedy at a theatre in Washington. The US President was shot in the back of the head, and he died the following day. The likely reason for his assassination is that he supported Black rights.

James Garfield

On July 2, 1881, James Garfield became the second US President who was assassinated. Garfield was shot in Washington while he was walking through a train station to catch a train to New England. He was shot in the chest and was laid for weeks in the White House before he died in September of that year.

William McKinley

While giving a speech in New York, William McKinley, on September 6, 1901, was shot. He was shot in the chest twice at point-blank range while shaking hands with the crowd present at the rally. McKinley passed away eight days later, although McKinley was expected to survive the assassination attempt.

John F Kennedy

The assassination of John F Kennedy was one of the most shocking assassinations in US history. In November 1963, a hidden assassin armed with a high-powered rifle fatally shot him as he visited Dallas with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. He was shot as his motorcade departed in Dallas. Kennedy was quickly taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he passed away shortly after.

Franklin D Roosevelt

Franklin D Roosevelt, when he was the president-elect, had given a speech in Miami from the back of an open car when gunshots rang out. He was not injured in the February 1933 shooting. The shooting killed Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak, and Guiseppe Zangara was convicted of the shooting and sentenced to death.

Harry S Truman

In November 1950, Harry S Truman, who was staying at the Blair House across the street from the White House, when two gunmen broke in. Truman escaped unhurt, but a White House policeman and one of the assailants were killed in an exchange of gunfire, while two other White House policemen were wounded. Oscar Collazo was arrested and sentenced to death.

Gerald Ford

Gerald Ford, the 38th President of the United States, faced two assassination attempts within weeks in 1975 and was not hurt in either incident. Ford was on his way to a meeting in California when one of Charles Manson’s followers pushed through the crowd and aimed a pistol at him. However, she did not fire the gun. Just 17 days later, another woman, Sara Jane Moore, confronted Ford outside a hotel in San Francisco. Moore fired one shot, which missed. A bystander grabbed her arm as she attempted a second shot.

Ronald Reagan

After delivering a speech in Washington, DC, Ronald Reagan was walking to his motorcade when he was shot by John Hinckley Jr., who was in the crowd. Three other people were also shot during the assassination attempt, including Reagan’s press secretary, James Brady, who was left paralyzed due to the attack.

George W Bush

In 2005, George Bush was attending a rally in Tbilisi with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili when a hand grenade was thrown towards them. They both were behind a bulletproof barrier when the grenade, wrapped in cloth, landed about 100 feet away. Fortunately, the grenade did not explode, and no one was hurt.

George C Wallace

George C Wallace was re-elected as governor in 1970 and ran in the 1972 Democratic presidential primaries. He had softened his stance on segregation. However, his campaign came to an end when he was shot in Maryland by Arthur Bremer. As a result of the shooting, Wallace was paralyzed below the waist for the remainder of his life.
