From eating fruits to drinking coffee: Experts list the best time to eat certain foods

New Delhi: Being healthy is not about only eating right, it is also about eating the right thing at the right time. This is why it is advised to eat breakfast like an emperor and dinner like a beggar as the body’s metabolic rate slows down as the sun sets. According to experts, it is the timing of meals that can make a great deal of difference concerning health. Even for foods and drinks like coffee and carbs, there is a right time. Read on to know what the ideal time for meals is.

Coffee at 11am: Ideally, one should wait for a few hours after waking up to drink coffee. The first cup of coffee should be scheduled for when cortisol levels in the body drop and when the body undergoes an energy slump. You can also have it at 10am if you wake up at 7am.
Eat vegetables first: One must try to eat vegetables first in a meal as it helps one stay full for longer and it also regulates blood sugar levels. This way, one also eats less carbs.
Supper at 5pm: Early dinners and supper are key to weight management and better digestion. Overweight people are also asked to eat the same meals at different times, but dinner at 5pm can make a great deal of difference to the way the body stores fat and burns calories.
Eat before exercise: This rule applies to women as the amount of fat burnt by the body depends on when one eats around workout timings – before or after. Another study found that women who had a drink with carbs before workouts showed better results as compared to those who had it later. The opposite applies to men as they have more muscle mass which stores energy-making carbs and also does not burn these fats if they are already getting the nutrients that the drink provides.
Eat fruits before a meal: Many people eat fruits after a meal as a safer and healthier alternative to sugar. But ideally, one must eat fruits before a meal as it boosts the release of appetite-reducing hormone peptide tyrosine (PYY). This way, one eats less for the main meal.
